SET UP JUDICIAL COUNCIL IN TOO











It refers to Supreme Judicial Council in finally restoring sacked Chief Justice after clearing him of charges levelled against him by President General Musharraf. Fruitfulness of the Pakistan system should make India also set up a Supreme Judicial Council which will not only be instrumental in maintaining independence of judiciary, but will also induce much-desired accountability in judicial system which at times is being criticised by many eminent jurists and legal luminaries to be increasingly affected by virus of corruption and misconduct.











Supreme Judicial Council should have retired judges of Supreme Court as member-nominees of President, Prime Minister, Opposition Leader, Chief Justice of India and President of Supreme Court Bar Association with Central Vigilance Commissioner as its ex-officio member. Apart from probing complaints against judges of higher courts (including even Chief Justice), all appointments of status of judges of High Courts and above including members of all Judicial Commissions/bodies set up by

Union

and state governments should be made by the Council. It has become an unholy trend by governments to authenticate their misdeeds by misusing their favourite retired judges in judicial bodies like happened in allocating petrol-pumps/gas-agencies to favourites of political rulers in NDA regime!
